We will be conducting a special event for all 6th grade students entitled The Drug Store Project on Friday, October 25, 2019. The Drug Store program is a community-based prevention program that involves personnel from various agencies such as: the local school district, law enforcement, fire, health departments, and counseling agencies. Also participating in the program are our judges, lawyers, counselors, medical staff, and service organizations. This effort was initiated out of concern for the youth of our community.
Research has found that students in this age group are often placed in a position of having to make choices about the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. They must know why a decision to reject the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs is the best choice for them. We believe The Drug Store Project in addition to the drug prevention curriculum through the classroom, provides them with the necessary knowledge to make that choice. This program provides students with a very realistic demonstration of what can happen to one who chooses to be involved in substance abuse. The program places an emphasis on the legal, health, and social aspects of substance use and abuse.
